We are dedicated to winning the fight against Pancreatic Cancer. In 2015 Team Big Jim started participating in PurpleStride Washington DC and through the 2023 PurpleStride event we have raised $148,201.

We have always set out to raise $1 more than the prior year. This year we set our goal a little higher at $20,000. We reached that goal on April 11, 2023 so we have increased our goal to see if we can get to $25,000 by PurpleStride.

PurpleStride Washington, DC

PurpleStride Washington, DC is back! PurpleStride is scheduled to take place back in Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC on April 29, 2023.

PanCAN is dedicated to supporting pancreatic cancer patients, their caregivers and families. PurpleStride is PanCAN's 5K walk/run fundraising event carried out in communities across the country. Unlike prior years where cities across the country would have their 5K on different days, this year every PurpleStride event will take place on April 29th.

About Us

Our mission is to both raise funding for research and also to help raise awareness of the current funding shortfall for Pancreatic Cancer research.

Team Big Jim is named in honor of Jim Edwards who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on February 12, 2015. Jim's death led many of his family and friends to learn more about the disease.

Pancreatic cancer takes 90% of its victims within five years and kills more people than breast cancer in the US. The disease is the third leading cause of cancer-related death. More than 64,000 Americans will be diagnosed with the disease this year. That’s more than 150 mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, sisters, brothers, colleagues or friends who will hear the dreaded news every single day.

Those sobering statistics led to the realization that pancreatic cancer patients deserve better treatments and outcomes and they can't get them without a greater investment in research.

Team Big Jim has raised a combined total of over $116,000 for PurpleStride to help those impacted by pancreatic cancer. We need your help to keep the momentum moving forward. Please join us for a walk or support us with a donation.

Pool Party

To say "Thank You" to our team members, donors, and supporters we typically hold a pool party in Frederick, MD. The party will take place in June as a thank you to donors and team members. In previouis years, delicious Maryland have been the highlight of the party. This year the party will continue to be on the second Saturday in June (6/10/2023). More details to follow.

Our Fundraisers

100% of the money generated through our fundraisers are submitted to the Team Big Jim PurpleStride team page as donations. You don't need to signed up to walk in PurpleStride to join us for one of the fundraisers. Just come out and join the fun.
